Keeping Me at the Heart of Care-
12th June, London
Speakers and Programme Announced
True Voice is happy to announce two guest speakers for the forthcoming event “Keeping Me at the Heart of Care”. This event will allow participants to identify what might be needed to make parity of health a reality for people in care settings. It is one of 107 days of action – a campaign in response to the avoidable death of Connor Sparrowhawk whilst in an assessment and treatment unit.
The afternoon will allow people to think about what isn’t working at the moment and how it might be different.
Jon Wheeler, Director of Operations for Pohwer will be working from advocacy case studies to identify successful strategies for breaking down “Barriers to health in health and care settings”,
Andrew Carpenter, Regional Co-ordinator for the National Brokerage Network will be looking at the BMJ’s recent publication on achieving a parity of outcomes for people with mental health problems and/or learning disabilities and asking if it can be used as a tool to enable “Real Parity of Health.”
The discussion will also include a section from Martin Coyle (Director of True Voice) asking people to consider their own role in looking out for and speaking up for people, and the allies they may be accidentally. He will also touch on the challenges that advocacy funding and delivery models pose to creating fundamental change, asking whether we are “Championing Parity, Rights or Lives?”
